Reducing your foodprint: farming, cooking, and eating for a healthy planet

Author:  Ellen Rodger

Reading level:  Ages 9-12

Summary:

Reducing Your Foodprint teaches children to be cautious and know what they eat because what they eat and how they eat is important to the environment. Most of the food we eat today are not fresh.  They travel many long miles to come to restaurants and grocery store. The further food travels, the more harm to the environment. This informative new book explains how to eat nearby and be mindful of what they eat. Special case study sections highlight how others have reduced both their carbon foodprints and footprints just by making changes in their diets.

Review:

I am deeply in love with this book and I think this book could be a great teaching tool for our children.  In today’s world, our kids do not know the origin of the food that they eat.  They don’t eat right and become obese leading to diseases like diabetes.  Teaching them about good food and be responsible for their own bodies can be money for our society too.  Less kids getting sick meaning less money spent on health care.  I would recommend this book to parents that want their kids to eat right and be healthy.
